This flock of Avocets dropped in on us while we moved slowly along a remote and secluded shoreline of the Klamath Lake. This is a major bird flyway here in the Pacific Northwest. We watched them for a while, until they flew off explosively when a Bald Eagle circled overhead; too close for their liking. Eventually they returned, and we got some great shots of these beautiful and graceful shore birds.

FIELD NOTES #2: Avocets Return
After we watched them a while, they suddenly flew off explosively when a Bald Eagle began to soar overhead; too close for their liking. They returned later to feed however; and we got some great shots of these shy and beautiful shore birds, natives to Oregon.
